Who Are We?
All
About Seniors is a private agency, providing companion care for seniors in
their place of residence. We are pleased to provide the following information
in order that you might be fully apprised of the nature and work we perform.
It
is our purpose to work alongside the family and all other caregivers who may be
involved to provide your senior loved one the highest level of thoughtful care
and wholesome living.
Lynn
and Keith Cannon, are the founders and operators of All About Seniors. The
agency was started in 1997 in response to a need recognized among busy families
who required additional help with older family members. It became apparent that
hectic schedules, geography and physical limitations were sometimes obstacles
in giving senior family members the care and attention they deserved.
We
now have about 35 contractors providing companionship and care to over 85
seniors and their families throughout the city of Calgary. We visit private
residences, assisted living centres and full care facilities. Frequently, we
are engaged by seniors and their families, but we are also working extensively
with Alberta’s Office of the Public Trustee and the Office of the Public
Guardian. As well, we work with private trustees and guardians.
During
the past 14 years, we have worked with seniors having a wide variety of expectations and needs.
Some have physical limitations and need help to get out to appointments and
social events. Some require assistance due to cognitive limitations. Our
experience has enabled us to assist seniors with significant dementia and
Alzheimer’s disease. We have also been able to help in situations where seniors
have presented with addiction issues, anti-social and even aggressive behavior.
AAS
is a home based business. We are available to our staff, clients and families around
the clock. Before we begin with a new client, we conduct extensive research to discover
as much as we can about the history and needs of the client. We want to know
the person as much as possible so that we can respond to him or her as an
individual. We have learned that seemingly small likes and dislikes can make a
big difference. For example, if the client prefers that coats be hung
up instead of being draped on a chair or bed, that acknowledgement can make a
considerable difference not only in the visit that follows, but also in the
ensuing relationship. Therefore, when we conduct the initial interview, we are
careful to note all the details, large and small, so that our companion will
know the client’s preferences, issues and concerns, as well as any actions or
subjects that might be offensive.
Moreover,
we want to be clear regarding the specific objectives to pursue. The client’s
interests and concerns must be our interests and concerns. Creating such a
detailed client profile not only enables our companion to get to know the
client as a person, but also, it enables AAS to match the client with the most
suitable companion. Our goal is to provide a companion who will develop a
continuing relationship with the client, one whose visit the client will
eagerly anticipate.
AAS
strives to be accountable to the families or guardians of our clients by
providing written reports of each visit. Moreover, should needs or concerns of
a more immediate nature occur, we will make contact as soon as possible. When
other caregivers are involved, such as the staff of a seniors’ residence, we
would strive to interact with them to ensure that they are aware of everything
that we know pertaining to the resident’s well-being.
All
of our companions are licensed, bonded and have liability insurance. We are covered
by WCB. As well, criminal record checks are done on each companion.
If
you are interested in the service we provide and you would like further
information, we welcome your contact.
